Christmas With The Kranks

Christmas With The Kranks

Given the time of year and as I haven't watched any new films recently, (hence the blog absence), I thought it would be appropriate to review a Christmas film. I watched 'Christmas With The Kranks' last Sunday, what with it being a Christmas family tradition, and enjoyed it as per usual.

However, becasue I'm a big 'Home Improvement' fan, I don't enjoy Tim Allen's character in 'CWTK' as much as he is more mellow and miserable. He's still quite likeable, but nowhere near as much as his 'Tim Taylor' character in 'Home Improvement', or his 'Scott Calvin/ Santa Claus' character in 'The Santa Clause'.

But nevertheless, it's great festive fun. A lovely film to watch at this time of year, with a few laughs (or 'Lol's' if you will) and it is a genuine Christmas film that suits anyone that doesn't greet the 25th December with the words 'Bah Humbug'!

It's weakness could be that Tim Allen's character could be a bit jollier like he is in 'Home Improvement', rather than  a Ben Harper- esque character. But he is also one of the films stregnths too, as he is still funny, as is the character 'Vic Fromire', played by Dan Akroyd. There is lots of humourous banter in it and the humour is quite varied which is a refreshing change from a lot of films, some subtle and some silly. A good mix.

So, overall, I'd give this film an 8/10 and give it a thumbs up to any Christmas and comedy fan. Don't get me wrong, you don't have to be a Christmas nut to like it, it'll just be better if you do. But it's not a necessity, especially seen as it is based on the novel 'Skipping Christmas', as it is about trying to skip Christmas and use the vast amount of money they usually spend on Christmas, on a holiday cruise, much to the neighbourhood's disgust.

Now I've put it like that, it actually sounds boring-but it isn't, it is funny and very Christmassy. Have I made that clear yet?
